Troubleshooting

First checks

The launcher prints four lines when it starts:

FreeCAD 1.1.4: C:\Program Files\FreeCAD 1.1\bin\freecad.exe
NX profile: C:\Users\you\AppData\Local\FreeCAD-NXStyle\profile-1.1
Strata: bundled (...\vendor\freecad-strata)
Katydid: bundled (...\vendor\Katydid)

python launch_nx.py --dry-run prints the same facts, and the full FreeCAD command, without starting anything.

The launcher stops

"No FreeCAD found."

The launcher looks in the usual install places. Run python launch_nx.py --list to see what it found, and pass the executable or the install folder with --freecad:

"FreeCAD executable not found: …"

The path given to --freecad does not exist.

"warning: FreeCAD … is older than 1.0 and is not supported"

Install FreeCAD 1.0 or newer. FreeCAD 1.1 is recommended: its Siemens NX navigation style and theme editor exist only from 1.1.

"Refusing to use … it overlaps the normal FreeCAD folder"

A --profile folder must not be inside your normal FreeCAD user folder, so that NX-Style can never change it. Pick another folder.

Strata or Katydid is missing

Strata: not found: run 'git submodule update --init' … (or Katydid: not found …)

The copy was cloned without --recursive. In the freecad-nxstyle folder run:

git submodule update --init

Strata: off (…)

It was switched off with --no-strata or "plm" in the settings.

Strata: installed in the NX profile (…)

A Strata installed with the Add-on Manager in the NX profile is used instead of the bundled one.

Katydid: off (…) or Katydid: installed in the NX profile (…)

The same for Katydid: --no-katydid or "algorithmic_modeling" in the settings switched it off, or a copy in the NX profile is used instead.

Strata’s panel needs git on the PATH; see Installation.

The window looks wrong

FreeCAD’s menus and toolbars are back: Tools › FreeCAD Menus and Toolbars toggles them.
A panel is lost: Open it again from the Resource Bar. If the layout is damaged, start with a fresh profile: python launch_nx.py --reset-profile. This deletes the NX profile’s settings and FreeCAD preferences, not your parts.
The part is in the Part Navigator but not in the 3D view: Hide the Body’s origin (select Origin in the Part Navigator, Ctrl+B). FreeCAD 1.1.4 drops a Body with a visible origin from the view after a fit (Known issues).
Keys do not do what this site says: Check "nx_shortcuts" in the settings, and whether a sketch is open: some keys work only in a sketch (Keyboard shortcuts).
Units are inches: NX-Style switches an imperial schema back to millimetres at start unless "units": "freecad" is set.
